2 Feb 1990 – Goodfellow Room is dedicated at the AF Basic Military Training School at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. If you look closely, check out the photograph next to the gentleman in dark suit. It is the same photograph that is shown above.

I had the honor of being the first civilian winner from Goodfellow in the ATC’s first Top Tech competition.
Was surprised to see my name up on the marquee; the first was when I won Top Tech, the second time was when I won Civilian of the Year.

3 August 1984 – Here I am with my daughter, Jennifer. I wondered what the soldiers must of thought – “What gives? We get pulled out of training, told to march in formation to this large open field just to watch this civilian get a piece of paper.”

14 January 2018 – Took a drive around base after Mass on Sunday and found a few deer. Didn’t realize I captured one in the rear view mirror until I looked at photographs later.

Tom Nurre (Ret.).The PT-13D image of a single aircraft appears on page 42 and is titled “Biplanes Come to Goodfellow” in August 1944.August 1944 – 1946narrows the date range of the (above) photo.”

Early 1960’s – A high altitude GRAB BAG air sampling balloon lifting off from the GAFB runway in the early morning hours, takenby H-21 pilot Capt. Phil Hurley, from probably where the old runways crossed at where the Fire Technical Training complex is.

About 1960 – Another slide taken by Capt. Hurley on a balloon air sampling recovery out somewhere in West Texas-note the inflated GRAB BAG, that was deflated by compressing the sample air into gas cylinders for return and distribution toagencies for analysis.

Flight/ground crew of H-21 #4341, parked on ramp between hangar and base Equipment Distribution warehouse. The latter building became the current BX in the 1970’s. Since the BX is basically the same building remodeled into the BX, civil engineering had to brace the 60-70 year old roof with steel poles that are installed all over the inside of the store and stockroom.

About 1967 – Looking west, note the balloon detachment’s hangar and the C-47 and U-6 parked on flight line. By now, balloon mission needs were changed to particle only sampling, so H-21s were retired in 1966, requiring only aircraft tracking & ground recovery trucks.
