1961 – To the left (off camera) would be the Base Chapel and Base Theater.  The inside view may have been taken in the mid 1960’s.
1970 – Base Exchange (BX) (looking south) Base Exchange later became the Child Annex (next to Chapel which is to the left off camera)

Photograph provided by Jim Bohn1961 – BX on the right (and left???).  Behind the telephone booth (in center of picture) is Barber Shop.  On the other side of the building (where the black and white cars are parked) would be the Base Chapel.
Carl Frentz commented:  “In 62 the building on the right was the bowling alley.  The BX was the low one on the left.  When they built the new bowling alley then I believe the old was made into part of the BX and clothing sales.  Eventually it became part of the child care and then demolished.”  and  “I remember it was the low building on the left and across the street was the old bowling alley (later became the BX annex when they moved the bowling alley).  Bowling alley then was 4 lanes and still had pin boys.”

I found this photograph at the West Texas Collection at ASU.In the next photograph, you can see this entrance on the left side.
1984 – Base Exchange (BX) and Commissary complex The flight line would have been in the background.

1984 – Inside the Base Exchange (BX)

1984 – Aerial of Commissary and Base Exchange (BX) and dorms. The cars in the bottom left of photograph would be parked on the old flight line. The elliptical area was the new dorm construction by the Barber Shop and HQ building.  The HQ building is at the top center (looks like a backwards capital “E”).

1985 – Aerial view looking east

Photograph provided by Allen Johnson This hanger was turned into BX, then destroyed when new complex was built.  See next photograph.
Photograph provided by Terry Casey 2009 – Looking west, I am standing on second floor of dorm across the street from BX/Commissary.  Looking NNE, in background is the Fire Academy water tower and Angelo Inn Lodging and dorms (where flight line/runways use to be located).
1990 – Aerial of new BX and Commissary This photograph was taken before the old hanger (turned BX) was destroyed.  You can see it next to the new brick BX complex. What looks like a huge parking lot (lighter tan color, closest to main street) was actually the concrete parade ground.  This parade ground has since been changed to grass. Good view of new main street (Kearny Blvd)
Photograph provided by Terry Casey 2009 – Shopette is located immediately to the left when you walk through the main entrance of BX.
Photograph provided by Terry Casey2009 – Shopette is at your left (off camera) as you continue to walk through into BX complex.

Photograph provided by Terry Casey 2009 – Beauty and Barber Shops are on the right side of hallway; Clothing Sales at far end of building (below the Exit sign).
2011 – Pizza and Subway located on left side of Food Court.
